INDIAN WEDDING 101
A GUIDE TO THE FESTIVITIES
MEHENDI
The Mehendi ceremony, also known as the Henna ceremony, is a pre-wedding tradition where intricate henna designs are applied to the bride and guests.
Be warned—after applying the mehendi, you'll need to keep it on for a few hours to dry before rinsing it off, so no eating, drinking, or bathroom breaks while the mehendi dries!

COCKTAILS+ SANGEET
Indian weddings are fun, loud, and full of energy! A big part of the celebration is the singing, dancing, and friends and family coming together to perform choreographed dance numbers—whether to Bollywood hits or Canada’s Top 100. And for a little liquid courage, there will be alcohol!
For inspiration, here is actual footage of the dance performances (and rehearsals) at Ashta family weddings.

HALDI CEREMONY
The Haldi ceremony is a fun, messy, and love-filled pre-wedding ritual where family and friends smear a turmeric-based paste—made of turmeric (haldi), sandalwood, rose water and milk—on the bride and groom.
It’s believed to bring blessings, protection, and good luck while doubling as a natural skincare treatment for a radiant glow. Think of it as a vibrant pre-wedding celebration filled with laughter, music, and playful chaos.

Dress casually and comfortably in light colors like yellow, cream, or beige. Wear something you're not going to worry about getting stained!
WEDDING CEREMONY
In a Hindu wedding, fire plays a central role in the ceremony. The bride and groom sit around the sacred fire, which is a witness to their vows. They offer prayers, make symbolic offerings, and walk around the fire (pheras), signifying their commitment to love, respect, and partnership.
